Medstrom ECO Mist: The Future Of Patient Hygiene

Medstrom is proud to announce the introduction of brand-new patient hygiene product ECO Mist. In an area of patient care that has gone without almost any innovation, this device is revolutionary in the way it transcends many of the pre-existing challenges faced by patients and caregivers alike during the bed-bathing process. It restores dignity to the experience for patients, as well as enabling caregivers to administer a more effective and efficient bed bath experience to bed bound and bariatric patients.

IT’S TIME FOR CHANGE

The ECO Mist prioritises three key factors in its design – caregiver efficiency, sustainability, and patient dignity; a system that is comprehensively beneficial for patients, caregivers and the planet. The traditional bed bath experience relies on multiple time-consuming and counter-intuitive processes such as manual water temperature management and ‘scrubbing’ at a patient’s sensitive and vulnerable skin to remove organic matter. The ECO Mist’s automatic water heating system and targeted misting removes these issues, as well as streamlining the process considerably.

SAVING TIME, SO YOU CAN CARE

Whilst patients’ in-hospital experience improves, clinicians also benefit from time savings up to 65% compared to traditional bed bathing. Meanwhile, the device reduces the usual water consumption of a ward assigned to bathing a single patient down from 10 litres to 500ml, using up to 95% less water.

“It was quicker than using a [traditional wash] bowl, less water was wasted, and the bed was less wet.” – HCA (Health Care Assistant)

Initial deployment on wards has yielded impressive results for the ECO Mist – across 40 wards (with 8 patients washed daily on each), the equivalent of 11 full time staff hours was saved and the vast majority of healthcare assistants admitted that use of the ECO Mist led to a drastic reduction in the use of towels and wipes during the patient-bathing process. Overall, usage of the ECO Mist equates to a net-cost saving per ward of £16,396 per year, translating to £677,400 across 40 wards for a year.

REVOLUTIONISING PATIENT DIGNITY

The ECO Mist also serves as another representation of Medstrom’s constant commitment to ensuring that no patient is left with substandard care. Specifically, the care afforded to bariatric, end-of-life and critical care patients who face the most considerable psychical challenges with the traditional bed-bathing process. This allows them to experience a profoundly improved degree of cleanliness, but also the potential to be self-sufficient.

‘it’s been great washing my hair, I feel fresh and clean. And I can wash areas I can’t get to as easily’ – Patient Testimonial

The ECO Mist’s hand-held functionality allows for the option for patients who can be given the stylus to conduct elements of their own personal cleaning, establishing a sense of normalcy and autonomy. This also reduces time spent by caregivers manoeuvring patients and the physically laborious act of bending awkwardly at the bedside, reducing likelihood of caregiver injury.

Zoe Rushton, one of Medstrom's Clinical Advisor's and Infection Control Nurse

“As a qualified Infection Control Nurse, I couldn’t be more excited with the prospect of ECO Mist. We’re now able to clean the patient more                          effectively in a further controlled manner, releasing lots of benefits from an infection control and governance perspective.” – Zoe Rushton, Medstrom Clinical Advisor & Infection Control Nurse

The launch of ECO Mist illuminates a promising future in the space of patient hygiene, and Medstrom is excited to further promote this highly effective and innovative product into the hands of more and more patients.
