Medstrom Support Children’s Charity with Donation & New Book Launch

Medstrom is delighted to announce a new partnership with children’s charity, Read for Good, an organisation that has a wonderfully simple ethos – motivating children to read! What resonated most with the Medstrom team was the work that Read for Good do within the healthcare sector. Providing the best brand-new books and resident storyteller visits for children in the 30 major children’s hospitals across the UK.

How it began

Uniquely it was a family connection that established the Read for Good partnership, with Barbara Williams, Head of Fundraising at the charity, remarking:

“We reached out to Medstrom earlier this year as there was a family link between one of our team and a member of the Medstrom team, Josh Hyde. We recognised that given our combined work in hospitals and specifically supporting children in hospitals that there was scope for a wonderful partnership and it has grown from there.”

Crucial to Medstrom’s support for the children’s charity, it was decided to fundraise in association with Dolphin Therapy, a unique surface that delivers incredible outcomes for the most complex of patients, including paediatrics. Therefore, for every Dolphin Therapy surface in use to support paediatric patient care, a percentage of the rental revenue is donated to Read for Good.

Introducing Dolphin Magic:

In addition to fundraising and in line Read for Good’s ethos of motivating children to read, Medstrom is proud to announce the creation of its very first children’s book! Entitled ‘Dolphin Magic’, it captures the story of Harry, a 10-year-old boy in hospital, who is magically transported to the sea for the adventure of a lifetime with his enchanted companion, Danny the dolphin.

The children’s book was written and illustrated by members of the ‘Medstrom family’ including Liz Allan, Clinical Content Manager, who explains:

“It has been an absolute pleasure to create this story alongside our talented illustrator, Rachel Morrison, with the purpose of enhancing our support for Read for Good and the wonderful work they do in UK hospitals. The book will be provided for free to paediatric patients and their families whenever a Dolphin Therapy mattress is installed and I hope the story of our brave hero is one that will capture children’s imagination and support them throughout their care journey.”

What’s Next for the Children’s Charity?

Through this partnership the hope is to continue sharing the gift of storytelling, which is especially important for children receiving treatment in hospital. Barbara Williams from Read for Good, added:

“Medstrom provides such quality products and care for young children in hospitals and we are so grateful they have chosen to support Read for Good to extend that care even further.

“The money donated will support our work in hospitals across the country by delivering brand new books and storyteller visits to children who need it the most. We are delighted to be working with Medstrom and we are excited to see what the future holds!”
